Can't think of any practical uses for this though...

This has all the hallmarks of a solution looking for a problem - now, if it could link to a mapping application, and read out directions to you - that would be useful....

I've thought of an idea for this type of app.
Have a "vehicle" profile mode in the native OS. When in "Vehicle" mode, any incoming SMS (and possibly voicemail) gets read out automatically.
